From the Committee for Syria in Argentina 07/05/2012

To the workers and the fighting workers and students’ organization of the world, and to everyone that fight and are in favor of the Syrian revolution:

For an International Committee in Support to the Syrian Masses
Over a year passed since the working class, the exploited and Syrian people have started their revolution against the murderous regime of Al Assad. More than six months have passed of massacres and genocides carried on by the army of Al Assad, on behalf of imperialism and NATO, together with the ruling powers and Zionism, the support of the regional governments (as Iran) and the complicity of the Arab League. All of them have focused their strengths in Syria to stop the chain of revolutions for bread and freedom opened in the North of Africa and Middle East. This chain of revolutions had its spark in Tunisia, and immediately spread to Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain and Syria itself.

This genocide against the oppressed people has cost over 70.000 lives in full view of everyone. A proof of this are the bombings in workers districts of Homs, Deraa, the massacre of Hula, Alepo and Homs, the murders house by house; families slaughtered by the Al Assad mercenaries. This massacre has the political and material support of the so-called Bolivarian governments in Latin America, like Kirchner in Argentina, Morales in Bolivia, Castro brothers in Cuba and Chavez in Venezuela, who keeps sending him oil barrels. Despite this, and the huge silence of a great strip of the world left, which keeps shooting in the back of the Syrian exploited, freeing the hands to Al-Assad to keep slaughtering; the workers and the Syrian people don’t surrender, and keep resisting heroically with whatever they can use, and in this moment they are fighting against the troops in the outskirts of Damascus, keeping in suspense all the powerful ones of the world.

As well as Al Assad can’t break the heroic people resistance, the accomplice silence of those who call themselves “socialist”, didn’t prevent, and won’t prevent that from different sides of the planet, the masses and the revolutionaries who embrace and make as our own the fight of the Syrian people, will organize to break the fence imposed over the revolution, and to fight for the triumph of the revolution: like the masses of Lebanon are rebelling against Hezbollah (that sent mercenaries to Syria to slaughter the resistance, and in Lebanon pursue and kill the activists that cross the borders), as the masses of Tunisia (who organize by thousands to go to fight in Syria) as well as the revolutionary militias of Libya do. Like in the province of Hatay southern Turkey, where thousands people, despite obstacles and controls of the Turkey army, manage to supply the resistance. And as the German anti-imperialist youth, who with their campaign of “adopt a revolution”, have collected around 200 thousand Euros delivered by them in hands of the resistance organizations.

From the “Committee in support to the Syrian masses” in Argentina, we consider ourselves part of these actions that have the aim of breaking the fence imposed to the Syrian masses. We are a committee formed by students, workers, shop steward commissions, unemployed workers organizations, workers currents and left currents, that in March, before the call of the Libyan revolutionary militias to make all kind of actions in solidarity with the Syrian working class and the people slaughtered by the Al-Assad regime. After this call we held these actions: on March 24th, (when we commemorate the anniversary of the military coup in Argentina), we marched with banners denouncing the massacre and the complicity of Kirchner’s government with the murderer Al-Assad; we also held a debate talk where, by Skype we could communicate with the Libyan militiamen that told us how was their fight against Khadafy and now against the TNC. Then we organized a rally to the Syrian embassy in Buenos Aires (where tens of workers, students, and left organizations concurred), which was held on June 7th with a great militant effort amongst the fighting workers and students organizations, making that such rally was voted in the rank and file students assemblies and in the last Congress of the University Federation of Buenos Aires (FUBA) against those that didn’t lift a finger in defense of the Syrian masses. We know very well that, in face of the difficulties that today the Syrian people is affronting, the tasks that we’ve made were a great step forward, but aren’t enough.

The conditions in which the resistance of the Syrian masses is in this moment are extremely thought. The workers and the Syrian people have to sell all their goods to be able of getting supplies (weapons, medicines, food, etc.), that scarce everywhere. Doctors can’t cope with all the work attending thousands and thousands of wounded, improvising attention centers wherever they can, in inappropriate places, since hospitals and schools work as torture and extermination centers. Today more than ever, the Syrian people need the solidarity from workers and revolutionaries from all over the world, and also they need a centralization and international coordination of all those actions that are being held in their help to be able to make efficient the help to the resistance.

Because of this, is that we make an urgent call to all the workers and militant students organizations (unions, shop stewards commissions, student centers and militant students federations) of Argentina, Latin America and the entire world, and those that show solidarity and fight in favor of the Syrian revolution, to set up an International Committee in support of the Syrian masses in order to centralize all the help possible; where we can collect all kind of goods for the Syrian resistance: from medicine, food, cloth, money and volunteers to go to fight with them as they already do the Tunisian, Libyan and Palestine workers from their organizations, seeking the best channel so the help get in hands of those who risk their lives in the battlefield fighting against the regime and the army of Al Assad. We summon specially to those organizations that have already pronounced in this way, and already are doing so: the Revolutionary Fighters of the Libyan Militias, the Movements of Factories and Rank and File Assemblies of the Libyan workers, and the Volunteers Committee of internationalist workers of that country; the Movement 6th of April in Egypt that week after week mobilize alongside with thousands of youths to the Syrian and Zionist embassy against the slaughter against the Syrian people; the UGTT of Regueb (Tunisia) and the thousands of young Tunisians that organize themselves to got to fight in Syria; the ACES of the fighting Chilean students; the Japanese students Zengakuren; the Post Union of Porto Alegre (Brazil), who are now discussing to send a day’s wage to supply the Syrian resistance, as also happens in tens of Venezuelan unions, where there is also a proposal of preventing any ship of oil to Al Assad; to those that mobilized in United States before the White House, denouncing the responsibility of Obama in this genocide; we call all of you to make together this campaign in concrete and effective solidarity with the Syrian Revolution, and against Al-Assad’s massacre, commanded by Obama and the imperialists, and that together we fight to extend it to all the workers and students organizations, and fight to arise this International Committee of support to the Syrian Masses, and for the triumph of their revolution to centralize this fight! We must recover the best traditions of the internationalist solidarity, as in the Civil War in Spain, where the unions and workers organizations of the world sent medicines, weapons and volunteers to fight against fascism.
Comrades, there is no time to lose. Each minute that passes, without advancing it this way, it means hundreds and hundreds of lives and it gives time for the imposition of traps that the imperialism prepare to expropriate the heroic fight of the Syrian people; like they want to do with the so-called Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army, discussing with the UN a supposed “transition government”; or preparing a military intervention, as they have already pronounced France and Belgium, to stop Al Assad be overthrown by the revolutionary masses. We, the workers, the fighting youth, all of those who fight against the massacre and for the triumph of the revolution, and all the exploited ones must be the ones that from our organizations of fight aid our Syrian comrades before it is too late.

July 1 Libya: the electoral trap

"THE DEMONSTRATION WENT INTO THE CITY AND BURNT ALL THE PAPERS"
Today was the mobilization we talked about in the previous mail. The organizers said and clarified all the time that they were not federalist, but stood against that 102 seats were for Tripoli, 60 for Benghazy and 38 for the South and called for allotting 20 (or 60, or whatever) for each one. They went even further and confronted the Government, because they said that all they managed to accomplish with the revolution was beheading the regime of Muhammar, but the rest (of his followers) stayed and today are in the Government and settled in the West, so going to a National Congress with absolute majority of the West above the other two regions together amounted to the total domination of the Qadafistas.
That’s why their program is bordering federaliyah, although they clarify all the time that they are not the Feds. In fact the Federal movement is different and they do not have political agreement. We will tell you the facts and the characterizations we could draw (try to distinguish between each other, as in the characterizations we could be mistaken). The march began at the roundabout of Majouri district in Benghazy, where during a couple of days protests were made to give back the vote card if one was opposed to the National Congress. There was a concentration where about 300 people gathered who cut off the street with posters and slogans, and then came the march.
Now, all demonstrations here come out of the place in front of the Tibesty hotel (one of the two best hotels of Benghazy, which is hosting the CNT when it is here) and go to the Liberation Square. Therefore it was believed that the march was going to start from the Tibesty, but no! It went to the center of the Electoral Commission (which was quite far away), which is the building where the information of the elections is, voter registration lists, organization, etc. On the way more and more people joined, until it reached 1000 people (remember that Benghazy is a city of 1 million inhabitants, and women and children are not involved). Everytime the march passed by next to posters of candidates to the National Congress in the present elections, they were plucked out by the demonstrators.

The march came to the polling place and set fire to all the papers and destroyed the computers that had been in place. The objective: preventing the elections from taking place. We noticed many slogans that were sung against the Government and elections, but there were also many in favor of the the federaliyah. And saw many federalists in the march (remember that the Feds do not have a direct link to the bourgeoisie, although they have almost all of its program based on the fair feeling that having them made the revolution, they do not want that Tripoli dominates them again).

The march then returned to the same place from where they had started, always unpinning every election poster that was at sight. But to leave the place it was not known if we had to return to the roundabout or go to the Tibesty. Now, in front of the Tibesty is the tent of the Feds, and that place is the typical place of the protests. The vast majority returned to the roundabout, and they clarified that they will be there all day with the protest that they were doing in that place, and the day that the polls are held, ranging to boycott them and prevent them from happening at all, at all costs (remember that almost all people here are armed; even, unlike other mobilizations, this many attended with their weapons.) (On the other hand the bourgeoisie does not count yet with a force of repression that could play to suppress them). Meanwhile in the Tibesty some federalists made a small blockade of streets, also in protest.
We believe that a sector of the masses ran through the bourgeois gaps attacking the Government and the elections (which is the bourgeois plan to strengthen the counter-revolution and its power), including considering a program of representatives elected by each neighborhood with mandate, with no majority for anybody. This sector -not the federalist bourgeoisie- was the promoter of the boycott of today and plan to move forward. But what is crystal clear is that the federalist bourgeoisie sent part of its people to infiltrate the mobilization and they themselves were placed at the head to try to stop it or contain it or divert it and use it, because they tried to paint the march as if it were a federalist action. There is even a candidate who withdrew his candidacy facing the events of today. But for us, the action was not encouraged by the bourgeoisie from its inception or controlled completely, because no bourgeois sector is opposed to elections or risks going to civil war actions, as the masses could break again.
So far, the newly elected Local Council in Benghazy condemned the actions and called for tomorrow in the Tibesty a protest against what happened today, considering that they agree with the federality, that it is all wrong about the inequality of seats, that they are against the Government, but “it is necessary to go into the elections to allow the country going forward”. The whole of the Benghazis see this as a betrayal, because all of them support the events of  today and condemn the local Council for opposing them.
